ブログのWordPressをアップグレードしようとしていろいろチェックしていたら、Gearsがまだ導入されていませんというメッセージが出ていた。
なんのことか良くわからないのでさらに調査をしたところ、Googleがブラウザーで表示を速くする機能だそうだ。
公共のコンピューターや共有しているコンピューターなどでは推奨されていない機能なのでなぜなのかと考えたが多分、セキュリティーの問題からだろう。
つまり、キャッシュすると言うことは、コピーがそのPCに残ることになる。これは他の人がそのPCを見たときに他人のブラウズした情報があとから見られるという可能性があるということだ。
ところで、話を元に戻して、Turbo機能の説明を探したら英語のものが出てきた。
Turbo: Speed up WordPress
The Turbo ability, introduced with Version 2.6, adds new features to your web browser and speeds up WordPress for the local computer user. Essentially, Turbo caches images and javascript files in Google Gears. The More information... link describe the Google Gears product.

それで、実際に試してみた。
最初の表示は当然キャッシュされていないから遅くて、2回目は速くなるだろうと思い、試したのだが確かに2回目は速くなる。
これは、WordPressがPHPを使っているからということも影響しているかもしれない。
もっとも、PHPで変換したものをキャッシュしているのかどうかまではわからないが。
